Dr Allen will take the time to listen to your concerns, review your medical history and any previous investigations, and discuss your symptoms in detail.
If further testing or treatment is recommended, he'll explain your options clearly, answer your questions and work with you to develop a personalised treatment plan.

When surgery is needed
Not every gynaecological condition requires surgery. Where appropriate, Dr Allen will discuss conservative and medical treatment options with you before considering surgical treatment.
If surgery is recommended, he performs minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures at St John of God Subiaco Hospital and will continue to oversee your care from your initial consultation through treatment and recovery.

Usually, you will see a gynaecologist if you or your GP has any concerns about your reproductive or gynaecological health. While all medical specialists in Australia require a referral from a GP for your initial appointment, we are available to discuss your issues or concerns by phone before receiving a referral.

When you book your first appointment we will let you know of anything you need to prepare in advance. We ask that you also bring along your:
Referral letter
Medicare and private health fund cards
Letters, test results, ultrasounds and bloodwork from previous doctors.

At the time of booking, you’ll be told about any information you need to prepare for us or any tests needed in advance. Here’s the kind of information that’s helpful if you have it on hand:
A list of any medications or drugs you and your partner take. This includes vitamins, alcohol or tobacco consumption and any recreational drug use
Information about any prior tests you’ve had
Ask your parents prior to coming in if you had any issues at birth or early childhood
Whether anyone if you or your partner’s families, male or female, have had any fertility problems or if there are any conditions that are known to run in the family
A list of all symptoms currently being experienced, even if they seem unrelated to fertility (eg. chronic headaches, anxiety, lack of sleep etc)
Personal information including major life changes or stresses.

This test has replaced pap smears and usually begins when you turn 25. These tests generally take place with your GP, however if irregularities are detected you will be referred on to a gynaecologist for further evaluation.
A cervical screening test should also be performed if you have any symptoms that are outside the scope of ‘normal’ - this would include symptoms such as abnormal menstrual bleeding, post coital bleeding or an abnormal vaginal discharge.

Yes. While the vaccine protects against most types of HPV, there are still some types that cannot be vaccinated against.
Currently all school age children are recommended to undergo vaccination against the most common forms of HPV.
